Real Historical Punishments 19-21

Real Punishments - 1671 Jane Farrett

19. The records of the Wakefield Sessions (England) dated October 5, 1671 contain the following judgement:

'Forasmuch as Jane, the wife of William Farrett of Selby, a shoemaker, stands indicted at this sessions for a common scold, to the great annoyance and disturbance of her neighbours, and breach of His Majesty’s peace. It is therefore ordered that the said Jane Farrett, for the said offence, be openly ducked, and ducked three times over the head and ears by the constables of Selby aforesaid, for which this shall be their warrant.'

The townsfolk: "When we say SHUT UP we mean SHUT UP!"

Real Punishments - 1681 Sophia Lindsay

20. Lady Sophia Lindsay helped her father, the Earl of Argyll, escape from his house arrest for alleged treason. In May 1681, she was sentenced to be whipped through the streets at the cart's tail. Her family appealed to the Duke of York for clemency - it would be unfitting for an aristocratic woman to be punished in a way usually reserved for whores.

His Grace reduced her sentence to a lesser but still painful punishment in private - the birch. Lady Sophia's birching, which was always given on the bare bottom, took half an hour and wore out two bunches of birch twigs.

Here, as the noble Lady is about to start screaming and crying, she has an extra humiliation - her maid gets to watch (no doubt remembering all the times SHE's been disciplined).

Real Punishments - 1692 Tituba

21. Everyone knows about the witch trials in Salem ("The Crucible" was based on real trials). This pricking on the rack with hot needles, to find a 'witches mark', was part of the usual process. It involved careful examination of the accused woman's naked body.

Not that this was in any way a motivation for these puritanical Christian men. Surely not!

[This was going to be Lizzie Proctor, but I realised that white women are over-represented in this series. These puritans were affirmative-action torturers.]

Real Historical Punishments 16-18

Real Punishments - 1663 Anne Coleman

16. One of the three Quaker women whipped in my last posting, Anne Coleman was caught preaching again the following winter in Salem, Massachusetts. This was not allowed for women OR Quakers. During the resulting whipping, the lash curled around and severely hurt her right nipple. All the Puritan constable had to do was stand a bit closer.

Question: Of the two characters on the right, which one is the bigger horse's ass?

Real Punishments - 1665 Mrs Tollman

17. Fact: At the Rhode Island colony in America, Peter Tollman sought divorce from his wife for her adultery. Found guilty, she was given 15 strokes of the cane at Portsmouth and 15 at Newport, to be delivered on the bare skin.

Speculation: Ships of the British Navy were well set up for flogging sailors and caning the young midshipmen (officer cadets). What if a ship was in port and offered its facilities to the local authorities for the purpose of correcting the adulteress? After all, the crew had never seen a woman punished before, and there's nothing like some good R&R. :)

This one was not suitable to be 'oilified':

Real Punishments - 1671 Skipping Joan

18. "Skipping" Joan was a nickname used for her by a cartoonist in London. She and other girls were the victims of "Whipping Tom", a phantom nuisance in 1671. He would jump out at young women, lift their dresses and, shouting "Spanko!", would proceed to do just that. This was before knickers were invented, and poor women had not many layers of skirts.

"Whipping Tom" occasionally used a strap, but mostly his hand. He was never caught. I sometimes wonder if he was an ancestor of mine - it would explain a lot!

Real Historical Punishments 13-15

Real Punishments - 1654 Barbara Blangdon

13. Respectable quaker Barbara Blangdon was brought before the Mayor of Great Torrington, in England. Quakers were a persecuted sect of 'heretics' and the parish priest urged that she should be whipped as a ‘vagabond’, since she was travelling around talking about Quakerism to anyone who would listen.

She was lodged in a filthy prison at Exeter and eventually sentenced to be flogged in 1654. The local parish beadle carried out the sentence with such zeal that the blood reportedly ran down the lady’s bared body in streams.

Real Punishments - 1657 Margery Riggs

14. Margery Riggs of the American colony of New Hampshire was whipped for "leading one George Palmer into sin". It's possible that the method called 'the bilboes' was used to secure her - its use is documented in New England as well as OLD England.

George was only put in the pillory for his (presumably symmetrical) part in the sin. You can almost hear the local clergy reading from Genesis: "And Adam replied 'The woman tempted me, and I did eat'." It was all her fault!

The way I've imagined it, George has to watch his illicit girlfriend being punished. I leave it to you whether this was a good or bad experience for him. It seems he was used to seeing her in this position!

Real Punishments - 1662 Three Quakers

15. The records of the Massachusetts colony of Puritans in America contain the following:

"To the constables of Dover, Hampton, Salisbury, Newberry, Rosley, Ipswich, Wennam, Lynn, Boston, Roxbury, Dedham, and until the vagabond Quakers are carried out of this jurisdiction: You and every of you are required, in the King’s Majesty’s name, to take these vagabond Quakers, Anne Coleman, Mary Tomkins, and Alice Ambrose, and make them fast to the cart’s tail, and, driving the cart through your several towns, to whip them upon their naked backs, not exceeding ten stripes apiece on each of them in each town; and to convey them from constable to constable till they are out of this jurisdiction."

Despite the snow on the ground, they were stripped for the entire ordeal - they couldn't have kept up the pace in long skirts, and panties were yet to be invented.

It's no wonder the Quakers formed a colony of their own at Pennsylvania. And there's no evidence that they retaliated by whipping Puritan girls naked through Pittsburgh, Altoona, Harrisburg, Allentown and Philadelphia, until they were out of the jurisdiction!

Real Historical Punishments 10-12

Real Punishments - 1590 Gilly Duncan

10. The Deputy Bailiff of Tranent in Scotland became (he claimed) suspicious of his maid and decided to look for a "witch's mark" on her body - a point that did not feel pain. This was done with hot needles and involved examining every inch of skin, including the scalp.

No doubt the Bailiff had always wanted to see Gilly Duncan naked, and accusing her of witchcraft let him throw in a little torture as well. He couldn't normally touch those boobs and get away with it, but with the right excuse...

Real Punishments - 1629 Gotter Ness

11. During the witch trials in Germany, in 1629, a woman named Gotter Ness (one of many victims) was forced onto a metal seat over a fire. But she wouldn't confess to witchcraft. History doesn't record whether she was executed anyway. Those holy inquisitors - they were really fun guys!

[I never had such trouble with a render as this damn picture! Daz/3Delight wouldn't stop crashing to desktop until I removed a second inquisitor, turned off all shadow casting, and took out the red light-source. I had to replace the red light in post-production (with GIMP). And my computer is only a year old!]

Real Punishments - 1650 Susan Coles

12. In the mid-17th century according to the records of Hartford, Connecticut, a maidservant named Susan Coles was arraigned ‘for her rebellious cariedge towards her mistres’. Susan was sent to the house of correction, there to be ‘kept to hard labour and coarse dyet, to be brought forth the next lecture day to be publicquely corrected and so to be corrected weekly until order be given to the contrary.’ (Original spelling).

Some of the American colonies imported an English method of bondage for punishment called 'the Bilboes', intended to inflict maximum public humiliation on those punished. This weekly exposure and caning will teach Susan not to be cheeky to her Mistress!

Real Historical Punishments 7-9

Real Punishments - 1550 Teresa of Avila

7. A nun in the order of Barefoot Carmelites, Saint Teresa had a strong preference for being birched, by herself and others. She frequently chastised the other nuns too. She is also depicted in Bernini's sculpture "The Ecstasy of St Teresa" having what Dan Brown calls a 'toe-curling orgasm' (in "Angels & Demons"). What Dan doesn't say is that according to Teresa's writings, the ecstasy was caused by an angel inflicting pain on her.

Here she is taking her turn in a group penance. You can't mortify the flesh without revealing it, right? This picture could just as well depict several other saints from convents: "Asperges me, Domine, hyssopo et mundabor" - "Purge me, Lord, with hyssop (a spiky plant) and I shall be clean". All masochists form a queue (behind me).

Real Punishments - 1558 Marie-Ann Leveque

8. Marie was the niece of the Mayor of Bruges, Belgium. Her confessor was Father Cornelius Adriason, who customarily whipped young women half-naked for their sins. But he decided that Marie-Ann Leveque deserved an extra-special penance. He stripped her completely naked and after her whipping, she said, she felt something enter her 'shameful place'. A doctor confirmed her complaints, verifying whip marks and recent penetration. Fr Cornelius was removed from his post but no criminal charges were laid. Sound familiar?

Real Punishments - 1586 Jane Wiseman

9. An example of 'Peine Forte et Dure' in Protestant England. When Jane Wiseman refused to be tried by a jury for hiding a Catholic priest, it was ordered that she should be:
"stripped naked except for a linen cloth about the lower part of her body" and be laid on the ground. Then, "upon her body let there be placed as much stones and iron as she can bear and more."

It took a while before the worst thing to happen to a Catholic girl was getting the strap from the nuns!

Real Historical Punishments 4-6

Real Punishments - 1227 Elizabeth of Hungary

4. Princess Elizabeth was the daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary. When widowed young, she became virtually enslaved to inquisitor Konrad von Marburg. Paintings by Calderon and Rev. Charles Kingley show her kneeling naked at the altar, making vows of poverty, chastity and obedience (to Konrad). He set standards the Princess couldn't possibly meet as an excuse to whip her as often as possible.
Elizabeth was made a saint for Franciscan devotion and charitable work. Konrad was sent by the Pope to hunt down and torture witches in Germany. The right man for the right job!

Real Punishments - 1306 Countess of Buchan

5. The Countess of Buchan organized the crowning of Robert the Bruce as King of Scotland, using her husband's resources without his knowledge. When Edward Longshanks of England overthrew Robert, the Countess was imprisoned in a cage and shown off to all dignitaries visiting Berwick-on-Tweed.
Where was Mel Gibson when she needed him? (This was the time of William "Braveheart" Wallace)

Real Punishments - 1546 Anne Askew

6. Anne Askew was put on the rack in the Tower of London, for Protestant agitation at a time when the elderly King Henry the Eighth was leaning back toward Catholicism. Bishop Fisher hoped she would implicate Henry's last queen, Catherine Parr.
Anne was later burnt at the stake, wearing bags of gunpowder to make her death mercifully quicker.

Real Historical Punishments special

I've made and posted these 1907 incidents - out of chronological order in my historical series - because of their topicality. (And without the oil-painting effect this time.)

Real Punishments - 1907 Anna Smirnoff

Anna Smirnoff, a Russian revolutionary, shouted at Tsarist troops for attacking women and children. She was stripped naked by them, and taunted as she was flogged.

This was a time when Russia had an absolute ruler, supported by the Orthodox church, and women were arrested for criticizing the regime. That couldn't happen there today.

Real Punishments - 1907 Marie Spiridonoff

Marie Spiridonoff, another Russian revolutionary, attacked a local Tsarist tyrant. She was kept nude, outside in the cold, by the Tsar's troops and subjected to breast and pussy torture.

As with the previous picture, this was a time when there was an absolute ruler, supported by the Orthodox church, and women were arrested for opposing him. That couldn't happen in Russia today.

Real Historical Punishments 1-3

Series blurb:
A history of the bondage and corporal punishment of females, using only incidents where a name and approximate date are known. I'm doing them in chronological order, covering from the first century to 1907.

Here on my blog, I'm using versions with Oil Painting effect, which you will see if you expand the pictures. To see full size originals in sharp clarity (but less style) go to kajiragames.deviantART.com.

Real Punishments - c60AD St Martina

In the 1st century AD, Saint Martina was stripped and beaten for refusing to renounce Christianity. When she was sent to the arena she was clearly served up to the lions nude, because according to the church writers: "her arms are crossed on her chest, and a blush of modesty has crimsoned her cheek, as she knows the rude crowd is gazing on her." But Martina was not to be eaten that day - the lions only licked her feet.

Said the lion to the lioness "I'm sick of Christians, they're either sour or completely bland."

Real Punishments - 61AD Boadicea

Queen Boudika (to give her name correctly) was chief of the Iceni tribe of Celts in the north of Britain. She had got on well with the local Roman garrison for years. Then in 61AD, a new Roman governor named Paulinus Suetonius arrived, and thought she was too snotty. He would show her who was in charge here. He had her stripped naked in front of her people and flogged. Meanwhile, the soldiers had their way with her two daughters (over 18).

She responded by raising a Celtic revolt that killed Suetonius and all his garrison. Nero had to send a whole new legion to put them down. Hell hath no fury...

Real Punishments - 1115 Héloise

Fulbert, uncle of Héloise, committed the care of his niece to famous scholar Peter Abelard, and gave him full liberty to chastise her whenever she was negligent or obstinate. The custom of the day led Abelard to use the rod on his beautiful pupil's bare bottom. She submitted to it so willingly that he wrote in his diary "not schoolmaster’s indignation, but love, often moved me from time to time to administer correction".

Interview with the Naughty Vampire

When vampiress Claudia was just over 70 years old, she tried to kill Lestat. She drugged two little boys and gave them to him to drink, then slit his throat. It didn't work, and this is the result.

Please note that in Anne Rice's novels, vampires DO reflect in mirrors.

Strip/Spanking Poker rounds 15-16

Bullying raises from Carmilla increased her large lead. She won a couple of $4200 pots. Then came the penultimate hand.

Both players had unsuited connectors: Drusilla T9 and Carmilla 54. They called and checked to see the flop. It was QS 4S KD, giving Drusilla a straight draw and Carmilla a pair of fours. With her huge lead, this was enough for Carmilla to bet $4800, and Drusilla wouldn't risk drawing to a gutshot straight. She folded and 'assumed the position' for her switching. More yelling and moaning ensued, as the red-haired maid used the whippy switch with a practiced hand.

Carmilla  166100
Drusilla   39800

The strip poker tournament, complete with painful penalties, reached its end. Two naked losers stood by as Drusilla pushed all-in for $39,500. She had T7 suited in clubs.

It didn't require any thought for Carmilla the maid to call, with her AK in hand. The women all stood up as the flop was dealt: 5C, 2D, 9S. Drusilla crossed her fingers and begged for something to break Carmilla's high-card advantage: a ten, a seven or two clubs. The turn JH closed off the third of those hopes. Then the river 4D sealed her fate.

Carmilla, winner of the tournament, generously removed her top, giving herself as much freedom of movement as possible. She picked up the cane as Drusilla pulled down her panties. The switch had been bad enough, but the brunette wept freely as the sadistic maid caned her bare behind enthusiastically. Dru had felt the cane before (see my "What Women Dare" series) but getting it from this sadistic redhead was worse.

It had been great fun for Carmilla. Now she could split the winnings with Lady Wilhemina, who had put up her stake, and avoid the whipping she had been promised if she lost.

Carmilla went home with the red marks of the paddle and switch, but Lady Salem, Princess Annabeth and Drusilla needed a lot more soothing ointment over the next week or so. Until the cane marks subsided, sitting down would remind them strongly of the outcome of the match.

THE END

Thursday 4 October 2012

Strip/Spanking Poker rounds 13-14

Now that the match had reached the heads-up stage, new rules applied, to which they had all agreed at the start. Penalties for losing contested hands would now be carried out with a switch. And to make these switchings riskier, both final contestants had to go down one notch in clothing. Carmilla removed her maid's dress, and Drusilla was now down to her panties only. Meanwhile the two eliminated players, Lady Salem and Princess Annabeth, sat naked on their sore caned bottoms. Luck had not favored the aristocrats that day.

A number of uncontested hands took their stacks to: Drusilla $124,750 and Carmilla $81,150. The blinds were now $1200 and $2400.

Drusilla was dealt Q9 suited in clubs and called from the small blind. Carmilla had AQ suited in hearts, and raised to $7900. Drusilla called again. The flop came down TC 7C KS, giving Drusilla a flush draw but she would lose if she didn't hit it.

Carmilla bet $8200 and Drusilla raised to $17500. The maid decided it was now or never and pushed all-in: $72,950. Drusilla called, in what was now likely to be the deciding hand of the match.

The turn was 3H, no help to anyone. Drusilla desperately needed a club. The river came down - 6 of spades. With a high-card win, Carmilla had regained the lead by a huge margin. She was now on $162,300.

Drusilla, now on $43600, didn't have to lose her panties yet. But Carmilla made sure the switching was very painful anyway. The whippy sound of the green sapling filled the room along with Drusilla's yelps and cries. Carmilla made sure plenty of stripes were laid on the lower part of her victim's bottom where the panties covered very little.

Drusilla had a hard slog in front of her to overcome maid Carmilla's huge chip advantage. The match didn't go all Carmilla's way, and Drusilla did get to use the switch. In one hand, she called with Q9 and Carmilla checked with K7-suited.

The flop, 7D AC 6S, was no help to anyone and was checked down. The turn QC gave Drusilla some hope. She bet $3500 and Carmilla could afford to call and see the river. It turned out to be 5D. Still no help, but Drusilla bet her queens with $6000. Carmilla believed her and folded, even though it meant bending over for the switch in her underwear.

Drusilla learnt well from Carmilla how to make the switching hurt, and paid the maid back in full. She laid most of her strokes on the bare lower part of the victim's behind, where her thong panties gave no protection. Carmilla could no longer preserve the silence she'd kept so far - she yelped and hissed through gritted teeth.

Carmilla was used to handing out pain and humiliation, not taking it. Besides losing a spanking bet to Annabeth, there had only been that one time she fell foul of Fredonia's archaic laws, and been exposed naked in the town square, where anyone could slap her. (See "A State of Public Humiliation" series).

The $18,400 pot brought the totals to:
Carmilla 158000
Drusilla  47900

Monday 1 October 2012

Strip/Spanking Poker rounds 10-12

Having been eliminated, Princess Annabeth had to stay nude, with her caned behind still hurting a lot, and watch the rest of the tournament. For the others, losing a contested hand would now mean a paddling (as agreed when it came down to 3 players). The stakes - in money, pain and embarrassment - were all increasing.

The first hand for the remaining three women was an exciting one. Lady Salem was dealt KJ and, buoyed by her previous victory, she raised to $3600. Drusilla had pocket sevens and reraised to $7500. These two ladies had been swapping positions all night, and Lady Salem wanted to settle the matter now. She reraised to $42,500 - enough to put Drusilla all-in. Drusilla took the challenge and called. For the second hand in a row, the women stood up and watched the board.

The flop was 3H 9S 2D - all too low to help Lady Salem. The turn 3S put Drusilla on two pair. Her Ladyship had one more chance for a jack or for a king (of which she had FOUR the previous round). The river came down - ten of clubs.

Drusilla won the $85,600 pot, doubling up. Carmilla was still leading on a stack of $107,600. Lady Salem, on only $12,700 was now below the $32K threshold that required her to remove her second-last piece of clothing. Miserably, she removed her bra. She was only $700 away from losing her panties as well.

Topless, she bent over while Drusilla practiced her backhand on Her Ladyship's panties with the paddle. The wealthy lady yelled a lot - this was the most painful thing to happen to her since the time she got caught streaking by the town shirrif, and was given a bare-bottom switching (see "What Women Dare 03").

Carmilla the maid had been smug and complacent through the dramatic events of the last few hands. She had stayed out of it, sitting on her chip lead.

But when Drusilla raised $3000 with pocket kings, Carmilla called, hiding her KQ hand carefully. The flop was 9H AC 6S, more worrying for the maid than her opponent. Drusilla bet $3000 again and again Carmilla called, waiting for some luck or a chance to bluff.

The turn, 9D, paired the board and was checked down. The river, JC, made Drusilla confident with her KK99, and she bet $4500. Carmilla decided now was the time to use her stack advantage to bully and bluff her opponent. She raised to $14,200. Perhaps Drusilla was looking nervous, but it was a mistake for the red-haired maid. Drusilla called her, and won the $41,000 pot.

For the first time, Carmilla was knocked off of the chip lead, and had to bend over for the paddle on her maid's dress. Drusilla had been coming last not long ago and was now chip leader. She didn't spare Carmilla, but gave her a thorough whacking.

Drusilla  106200
Carmilla   87200
Lady Salem 12500

With such a short stack, Lady Salem was forced to take any decent hand as a chance to double up. She decided her Q6 was good enough and went all-in. Drusilla, the new chip leader, called with pocket jacks.

Her Ladyship had little chance against a made hand, but prayed for a queen. But the board gave her only low cards: 5H 2S 5C 2C. The final 7S spelled the end of the tournament for her and therefore, as agreed, a nasty caning.

Since she was obviously below all stripping threshholds, Her Ladyship had to be naked for this ultimate penalty. She removed her panties as Drusilla took up the cane. Losing the money was the least of her worries - she had gambled for high stakes of pain and embarrassment, and now had to pay. Carmilla said how jealous she was, that once again she wasn't getting to deliver the punishment.

Lady Salem yelled and sobbed as the cane struck the generous proportions of her bare behind. Then (slowly) she sat down next to her fellow naked loser, Princess Annabeth, to watch the heads-up match.

The stacks were Drusilla $117,300 and Carmilla $88,600. Carmilla needed to pull ahead or she would not only be caned by Drusilla, but whipped by her mistress Lady Wilhemina for losing the stake she had put up.
