The next day, when Grugg amused himself by making One produce her little squeaks (to him) when she was tickled, Two shouted at him: "Leave her alone! Bad! Bad giant!"
It didn't work, and when they were reunited he tried to comfort her tears of humiliation and outrage, echoing the comfort she had given him yesterday.
Sometimes it was Two's turn to be humiliated. He tried to resist the friction of the giant's finger and hoped that One understood something about men: That they don't need a satisfactory emotional situation for physical stimulation to work! Helpless to restrain his reactions, he hoped she wasn't thinking he actually enjoyed this! But when he was put back in the cage, her comforting hug was closer and longer than usual. They both said nothing.
The two pets' mutual comfort and support didn't take long to become a passion. When Grugg was asleep one night, they looked into each others' eyes and simultaneously pounced. Gasps of ecstasy made the giant stir in his sleep, but he picked his nose, rolled over and resumed snoring.
They stopped caring whether Grugg saw them or not, and spent the long days devoted to each other, physically and emotionally. The only interruption was the giant's playtime. But it was different for One now she was no longer alone. She still hated it, but she no longer cried and yelled when she was molested, knowing that before long she would be touched in the way she ought to be - by someone she cared for.Grugg began to lose interest sooner and sooner each day because of her silence.
